Jim Combs is the Director of Sacramento's Parks and Recreation
Department. He says maintenance staff has already been
reduced to one person crews, so the cuts will have to come from
somewhere else.
"We're probably at some of the lowest levels of maintenance
that we can go to. You know it's pretty severe already. We
don't expect it to decline further but it's just not acceptable
where it's at."
The department has also closed more than half of the city's 13
pools. Next year, only three pools will be open. Combs
says his budget proposal isn't a scare tactic, but a
reality.
"There's not a lot of other options here. One time
money's are not available. So we're expecting to live with
the budget we're proposing."
Combs says he has seen a silver lining though as his budget
dwindles each year. He says his department is being
overwhelmed with people volunteering to maintain their local
park.
