Ask Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson if he's willing to start fresh with the Maloof family, which owns the Kings, and he'll say yes.
Johnson: "I hope so. I'm willing. But that's a decision they'll have to make. We're here, this is our hometown. I'm not going anywhere. I don't have the choice of relocating. I'm stuck. Sacramento. Proud of it."
But local political analyst Doug Elmets says he suspects the mayor's relationship with the Maloofs is about where the fans' relationship with them is: tenuous at best. Still, he says, that can change.
Elmets: "Should the Maloofs either stay or be required to stay by the NBA, their image can easily be resurrected in a very positive way..."
…especially, he says, if the Kings start winning.
