It might seem contradictory, but Mayor Kevin Johnson says
Sacramento voters might be more willing to support a new sports and
entertainment complex without the Kings.
"I think the public feels better now knowing that it's not
only about the Kings. It's about us as a community,"
Johnson said.
Johnson says the voters rejected a 2006 ballot measure that
would have provided public financing for a new arena because most
people felt like they were financing a private sports
team.
He says only about 30 percent of the activities out of Power
Balance Pavilion are sports activities.
"That means 60-70 plus percent are non-sporting
activities," Johnson said.
Johnson says developers David Taylor and Icon Group
will continue working on a feasibility study for a new sports and
entertainment complex without market analysis documents from the
Kings' owners.
