In Sacramento today, Governor Schwarzenegger looked ahead to the special session of the legislature he will call for December 6th. The governor says he'll push for more cuts to close the 6 billion dollar budget gap that remains for this fiscal year. He says governor-elect Jerry Brown's approves.
"I talked to Governor-elect Brown. He's all for it, he knows that the faster we make those decisions, the better it is, and the less he has to deal with it, it's natural."
In the budget passed in October, lawmakers agreed to 7 and a
half billion dollars in spending reductions. The governor cut
another billion dollars in line-item vetoes.
But the Legislative Analyst announced this week that the
budget still falls short by about 6 billion dollars. The governor
made it clear that tax increases are not an option.
