The Budget Conference Committee met briefly to discuss the budget proposal that includes more than seven billion dollars in cuts. Many of those cuts are to education and health care services. State employee funding will also be reduced, as will funding for the Department of Corrections. The only issue the committee really picked apart was the Governor's request for a rainy day fund. In the current proposal, that amounts to about 300 million dollars. Democratic Assembly member Nancy Skinner says in California, that's not much.
"To portray somehow to the public that it would have in a significant way change the circumstances that we have experienced with this recession I think is very inaccurate."
