The California State University system has been accepting applications for the Spring semester - but until now, it couldn't guarantee anyone would be admitted at all.  That's because officials have been waiting for a state budget deal to find out how much money they'd have available.  Now, CSU says it'll use a final chunk of stimulus dollars to admit some of the applicants - but not all.  At Sacramento State, Associate V-P for Enrollment Ed Mills says the new money opens up around 1,400 spots.

Mills: "We know we will be able to accommodate our fully eligible local students.  Students from outside of the area may be placed on a waiting list for this spring to see if we have additional space that becomes available.  Or we could ask them to apply for the fall term."

The CSU chancellor's office says it can now admit about 10,000 students this spring to its 23 campuses.  So far, more than 40,000 have applied.  The application deadline is September 27th.
