The city recently bought about five acres just south of the Ziggurat building and is talking with developer Parkcrest Development Corp., which passed on a hotel proposal earlier this year on K Street in downtown Sacramento. West Sacramento city officials are cautiously optimistic that the proposed 300-room hotel could become reality. Marriott Hotels is being mentioned as the operator of the 16-story hotel.
Now, under the complicated plan, Build America Bonds would fund part of the construction of the development, then the city of West Sacramento Finance Authority would take over and own the hotel - much like a similar deal that helped develop the Sheraton Grand in Sacramento.
