Protestors pushed a 10 foot tall statue of Governor
Schwarzenegger. The papier mache giant was smoking a cigar and
wielding a bloody ax they say symbolizes his budget cuts.
"No cuts, not cuts, no ifs ands or buts."
Many participants wore hospital gowns and pushed gurneys as
they chanted. Mary Ignatius is with Parent Voices. She says they
support the Democrats' budget proposal which raises taxes and
includes fewer cuts.
"People with disabilities seniors, working parents, child
care providers who all need a budget that protects health and human
services and also raises revenues."
At one point, impassioned protestors blocked an intersection
near the capitol, drawing the attention of law enforcement. The
state's budget is seven weeks late. There's still no sign of an
agreement on how to close California's 19 billion budget gap.
