It was standing room only at the Cathedral of the Blessed
Sacrament in downtown Sacramento. On one side of the central
aisle sat Cox's family and friends. On the other: the state's
top elected officials and lawmakers. Governor Schwarzenegger
gave the first eulogy.
Schwarzenegger: "He brought
people together, Democrats and Republicans. He always saw
things as people's issues, not a Republican issue or a Democratic
issue. And if politics is the art of compromise, he was the
Picasso in the capitol."
Then, after a rendition of "America the Beautiful" separated
the political speakers from the personal, came eulogies from Cox's
three daughters. Sarah Aquino described her dad as everything
a father should be - and more.
Aquino: "My role model, my
teacher, my advocate, my inspiration - always my cheerleader and
occasionally my critic."
Cox's daughters remembered their father as a hard worker, a
stickler for being on time, firm yet fair and having a great sense
of humor.
