You’ll find three candidates for Sacramento County sheriff on your ballot: Jim Cooper, Bret Daniels and Scott Jones. But after growing dissatisfied with the campaign’s tone, Frank Scafidi jumped in as a write-in candidate.
There are contested races for two open Sacramento-area state assembly seats: the Democratic and Republican primaries in the fifth district and the Democratic primary in the Ninth.
Sacramento County supervisors Jimmee Yee and Don Nottoli are up for re-election. And there’s an open seat in District 1 to replace Roger Dickinson.
And there are four Sacramento city council seats up for grabs – including three held by incumbents. A sitting council member hasn’t lost in 18 years, but all four seats are competitive.
The winners of the assembly primaries will move on to the general election. In the other races, a candidate needs 50 percent to win. Otherwise, the top two finishers move on to a November runoff.
