High temperatures in the Sacramento area will only be in the mid-60s. And if you’re thinking that’s pretty abnormal for late May…you’re right.

Eric Kurth is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento. He says 90-degree days are the norm in springtime…but:

“We haven’t seen one yet this year. So, that’s kind of unusual. The average is about May 14th that we’ll get a 90 degree day and we’ve gone past that.”

Kurth says it’ll be a record if we don’t get a 90-degree day by June 6th.

This latest series of storms is coming from British Columbia. It could drop up to a quarter-of-an-inch of rain in Sacramento over the next few days and up to a foot of snow in the higher elevations.

People driving in the Sierra should be ready for winter driving conditions including the possibility of chain and snow tire requirements.
