The $5,000 grant comes from the Grammy Awards Foundation.

UOP is home to the Brubeck Collection – which houses an array of rare audio and video recordings by the jazz icon.

Shan Sutton is UOP’s Associate Dean and Head of Special Collections. He spoke with the pianist and his wife about the Grammy announcement.

“Dave and Iola Brubeck are both thrilled with the news. Some of the material has never been released, it really varies. Over time the tape degrades and the possibility of retrieving the content from it becomes just trickier and trickier.”

Sutton says the grant will be used to hire a consultant in audio preservation to assess which recordings are most endangered. That work will begin this summer.
