City of Sacramento's Budget Gap: $43 Million

The budget would make up that gap with a combination of service cuts, labor concessions and one-time funds.
And Mayor Kevin Johnson says he can’t rule out layoffs either.

Johnson: “If I had to guess, and again this is just me speculating, I think it could be as many as 100 to 200 jobs or maybe more. And that is just not good for anyone.”

The budget does not outline specific cuts. Officials say they won’t be ready to do that for several more weeks. But city officials say they need to look at changing how they provide some services and eliminating other services all together.

The city council will hold its first budget hearing in mid-May.
