California exports increased for the third-consecutive month, the latest evidence that the economy may be improving in the state.  The Golden State’s exports jumped to $10.3 billion in January. That’s a 19 percent increase compared to a year ago.  Agriculture-related products, such as produce, accounted for much of that increase, improving 47 percent from a year ago — while manufacturing also showed a healthy jump of 10 percent.
 
An increase in exports gives a much-needed boost to the economy, which depends heavily on California-made products being shipped and sold worldwide, especially in Europe and Asia.  However, even with the increase, the state is basically back to the export level just months before the recession started.
