There were no websites when Brown was Governor of California before. The Democrat served for eight years, beginning in 1975, in the pre-term limits era. He’s also been Secretary of State and Mayor of Oakland. In his video message, Brown pledged not to raise taxes unless voters approve them. He also touted his experience:
“We need someone with insider’s knowledge but an outsider’s mind. A leader who can pull people together, republicans and democrats, oil companies and environmentalists, unions and businesses.”
The 71-year old is expected to be the only major Democratic candidate. He’ll face one of two wealthy GOP candidates in the fall – Meg Whitman or Steve Poizner. Both have donated millions to their campaigns and are already airing TV ads.
