The Great Recession has been rough on California farmers. In a twist of irony, during the holidays some central valley growers had to get food for their own families at food banks. Russell Van Loben Sels grows pears and wine grapes in the Delta town of Courtland. So far, he’s managed to keep his farm and his family above water.
The Road To Recovery series is an ongoing collaboration between Capital Public Radio News and the Sacramento Bee, examining which areas of the regional economy might provide opportunities for our eventual emergence from the Great Recession.
