The Sacramento Fire Department's Task Force Seven is standing by at Travis Air Force Base in Solano County. Battalion Chief Niko King says…waiting is the hardest part.
“Everyone’s really anxious. We train all year long for these type of deployments. We want to get to work and it’s tough.”
King says they’re on standby to be deployed within the next three-days. Meanwhile, King says they’re not just sitting around.
“There’s a lot for us to do to prepare. We’re getting information from the work that’s being done there. The types of tools and equipment and the rescues that are being made and we’re making those tools and equipment more accessible to us in our cache so as soon as we land we’re operation ready.”
The other task force awaiting a flight out is from Orange County.
California's urban search-and-rescue teams are trained and equipped for earthquake rescues. Each has about 70 members and thousands of pounds of supplies. A Los Angeles County Fire Department task force reached Haiti early Thursday.
