Governor Schwarzenegger’s spending plan relies on nearly seven billion dollars from Washington to help solve the state’s 20 billion dollar budget problem.
“We think that’s just way too high.”
Mac Taylor is the non-partisan legislative analyst. He says the state is right to pursue federal dollars, but California is likely to get closer to three billion – meaning that the difference will have to be made up with deeper cuts – or new revenues:
“This is just a daunting task that the legislature and the Governor face. There are no easy answers. They’re all very tough decisions.
Taylor says some of the budget solutions will take awhile to put into place, so lawmakers need to act within the next several months.
