This year the Governor may propose cutting insurance for
low-income children and eliminating home care services for the
disabled and elderly.
Chris Jensen is with Resources for Independent Living. He says that eliminating home care services would mean a loss of more than 300,000 jobs. And he says it would hurt people with disabilities.
"We want to talk about maintaining the safety net for those people who can't work, there's an obligation that we have there, along with the optional benefits that we lost last year ,which we could lose more of this year."
The optional benefits cut under last year's budget include
adult dental care, vision care and psychological services. Services
for thousands of HIV/AIDS patients were also scaled back and a
handful of community health centers shut down.
