Talk Show Intern

Capital Public Radio seeks bright, dynamic and motivated interns who want to gain hands-on, resume-building experience in a newsroom. Interns provide production support for Insight our public affairs interview program heard Monday through Friday at 10:00 a.m. on Capital Public Radio's News and Information stations.
FUNCTION: To assist with the daily production of Insight, Capital Public Radio's local public affairs interview program.
Reports to the Senior Producer of Insight
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Works to identify topics and people to be interviewed on the hour-long program. Conducts research and background information on assigned topics, including pre-interviews of potential guests. Contacts and coordinates live interviews with guests. Greets and preps live guests for the daily show. Will also learn how to direct and engineer live shows, and how to edit clips and recorded interviews for playback.
DESIRED OUTCOME: By the end of the internship, the student will have a full understanding of how a daily, live news and information program is produced and will learn about the functions of a major market news department. The intern should be able to fully produce a 12-minute segment of the program from start to finish and be skilled at directing, engineering and editing a live radio broadcast.
QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent writing skills, the ability to communicate professionally with guests and an interest in the media and regional politics is preferred. Reliability, professional demeanor and appearance, and an interest in a broadcasting, journalism, public policy or related career are essential qualities of the ideal intern. We prefer students receiving college credit, but will consider all applicants. This is not an on-air position.
Interns are required to devote a minimum of two consecutive days per week, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
