Summary

The Sacramento Region Reporter is a general assignment reporter position. He or she is responsible for generating story ideas, writing and producing long-form feature reports, interviews and spot news material for all of CPR's programming platforms. The SRR is knowledgeable in creating digital content and utilizes social media as needed.  Position has some focus on city and county government across the region, particularly Sacramento City and County.  The SRR is the local host for Weekend Edition Saturday and is a back-up anchor for All Things Considered and Morning Edition. This person will work out of the main station and CPR's downtown bureau as needed.

Duties

Regularly creates highly-produced feature reports and spot news stories on issues and events affecting CPR's listeners. Is primary reporter for responding to breaking news.  Travel will be required throughout the CPR listening area. Keeps informed about events, decisions and personalities associated with city and county governments, including Sacramento City and County.

Works Tuesday through Saturday; hosts and anchors Weekend Edition Saturday. 

Generates story ideas and News project ideas and participates in News Department editorial meetings. Creates content for digital platforms as assigned, including social media sites.

 

 

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in journalism or in a related field, or equivalent work experience for at least three years. Public radio experience ideal. Advanced reporting abilities; must be able to produce material of NPR style and quality. Advanced writing abilities. Knowledge of digital platforms and social media. Demonstrated ability to distill complex subject matters.
