News Network: Sacramento Sacramento's
tight District 4 race between Joseph Yee and Steve Hansen is still too close to call. Associate Editor of the Sacramento Press Brandon
Darnell joins us to discuss this and other topics in this
week's News Network.
Extreme Weather and Mayan Civilization's
Collapse Two professors at UC Davis have co-authored a study linking the collapse of the Mayan
civilization with the preceeding decades of extreme
weather. For the first time researchers have linked
climatic records with the ebbs and flows of the political climate
in ancient Maya. When weather was good, the populous and
political centers rose while when the weather declined it
corresponded with crop failures, famine and the eventual collapse
of the Mayan civilization. Macri and Winterhalder examine the
possible correlations between the disaterous weather that preceeded
Maya's collapse and the current political and climatic
situation.
Stained Glass Yosemite Bill Poulson and
Bobette Budworth have completed two of four 8' x 14' stained glass
murals that will depict each of the four seasons at Yosemite
National Park. In past years "Tissiack," the completed fall
mural, has been displayed at the Awahnee Lodge in the park.
Poulson and Budworth have launced a Kickstarter campaign to aid in financing the
completion of the final two murals that ends November 16,
2012.
Men of Worth What do you get when you put a
Scotsman and an Irishman on a stage and give them a tenor
banjo? The answer is the Celtic folk duo Men of Worth,
with Donnie MacDonald and James Keigher. The duo perform
traditional folk and Celtic ballads combined with some heartfelt
humor. Men of Worth are performing a benefit concert in Orangevale for Casa Roble High
School's drama and language programs Tuesday, November 13
before starting a tour of Southern California. They will be
back in December to perform with Sacramento Master's Singers for a
Celtic-themed concert series.
