Surge of Pedestrians Hit by Vehicles

With three people dead and two injured, city officials say car accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists are on the rise.

California Highway Patrol spokesman, Adrian Quintero, told the Sacramento Bee, "We have seen an increase in pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities. It's the main reason we're trying to be proactive."

All accidents happened at night or in low light circumstances. Many took place at uncontrolled intersections or along strips of road without sidewalks.
