(AP) - California pesticide regulators have fined six companies they say ignored warnings and repeatedly sold imported fruits and vegetables that contained illegal pesticide residues.
Crews made some progress with the Lowell Fire in Nevada County overnight. The blaze is holding at 2,303 acres and is now 45 percent contained.
Crews were able to stop a flare-up of the Wragg Fire in Napa County by Wednesday morning. The blaze is now 7,100 acres and is 80 percent contained.
As the California drought worsens, more rodents are encroaching on homes and farms in search of water. Animal shelters are advertising feral cats as a 'green' pest control alternative to poisons or traps.
