City Budget Approved, Council Divided
The City Council last night approved a new $376 million general fund budget. The vote was six-to-three.
Jay Schenirer was among the council members voting against the spending plan…partly because it relies on projected revenues that the city doesn’t actually have yet.
“What I don’t want is to get into a position where in two years we're now laying off people that we’ve just hired.”
The Sacramento City Council and the city finance managers have disagreed on when new Measure U tax revenues should be spent on the police, fire, and parks departments.
According to the finance department, the budget plan that passed last night has a smaller reserve in place that could create a nine-Million dollar deficit in the year 2019.
