The California Hall of Fame began back in 2006 as the brainchild of former First Lady Maria Shriver.  Each year, the governor and first lady pick a collection of famous people with California roots who, as the Hall says, "embody California's innovative spirit and have made their mark on history."

This year, the living inductees selected by Governor Jerry Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown include NFL star Joe Montana, labor leader Dolores Huerta and actor Warren Beatty.  Late inductees include scientist Gregory Bateson, designers Charles and Ray Eames, the Warner Brothers, and Native Californian Ishi - known as the "last wild Indian" in America.

The class of seven is the smallest ever.  The previous low was 10 last year.  They'll be inducted in a ceremony at the California Museum in Sacramento in mid-March.
