Cancer Center Improvements Bring Treatment Closer to Home

Cancer patients and their caregivers in Yuba and Sutter counties won’t have to travel as far for diagnosis and treatment thanks to a newly expanded cancer treatment center in Marysville.
The Rideout Cancer center has brought in the first treatment and diagnosis technology that allows doctors to perform biopsies, place catheters, and order imaging on site. Doctor Scott Christiansen from UC Davis is the medical director. He says the expansion allows patients to receive treatment closer to home, "We doubled the capacity of our radiation oncology provider. And we also increased the clinical space for our medical oncology providers as well as infusion room capacity."
The cancer center is part of the UC Davis Cancer
Network. Doctors can share information and treatment options
with other doctors as far away as Merced. The expansion cost
$16 million and was paid for using proceeds from the center.
The expansion of Rideout Memorial hospital next door is
due to be completed by January 2015.
