Whistle blower complaints have resulted in a report from the California State Auditor detailing nine cases in which state workers misused taxpayer funds.

The whistle blower complaints that led to these cases came from state workers - about other state workers.  And the violations on the list are serious:

Fernandez: "Bribery, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, improper overtime payments, improper travel expenses…"

Margarita Fernandez with the State Auditor's office says the nine abuses uncovered in this report combined to cost California taxpayers more than $600,000 - though some of that money was paid back.

The bribery case involved employees at the Franchise Tax Board and Secretary of State's office and more than $200,000.  Three people have been convicted in the scheme.

The audit also uncovered several cases of improper travel expenses or overpayments; and a conspiracy to commit mail fraud at the Employment Development Department.
