Eighteen-hundred turkeys have landed in the Sacramento area thanks to an annual event called “Operation Gobble.”
Ten tons of turkey are in non-profits' warehouses as a result of an annual turkey giveaway by a California water utility. As part of "Operation Gobble," the utility California American Water handed out 1800 turkeys Tuesday with the help of state legislators. The utility's Evan Jacobs says the company relies on lawmakers to tell the company which non-profits get turkeys each year, "We have over 100 employees here in Sacramento. They all live in the community. So, really, we're helping our friends, our families, our neighbors by doing this."
Women's Empowerment, River City Food Bank and the Salvation Army were just some of the recipients.
This is the 21st year the utility has partnered
with state legislators to deliver turkeys.
Locally, Assemblymembers Pan, Gaines and Dickinson, and
Senators Gaines and Steinberg helped unload turkeys and hand them
out.
