If you’re looking for a seasonal job over the holidays, you may still have time to find one. Employers typically continue hiring well into the holiday shopping season.

Labor market analysts say retailers are still in the process of staffing-up for the holidays…

"If the averages are any indication, we see a little bit of hiring going into October but we should see more of hiring in November and December."

That's Justin Wehner with the state Employment Development Department. He says the retail sector in the four-county Sacramento region typically gains 3,200 jobs in November and 1,900 jobs in December.

Another sector that will likely see a bump up in numbers is "food services" or restaurants. Wehner says those jobs usually decline after summer…

"…however, in December on average we do see an increase in that industry of about 800. But as to whether that's specifically attributed to holiday shopping - probably."

"Probably" he says because there's no way to track it. But common sense suggests, big crowds of holiday shoppers get hungry and thirsty…and tend to eat out.
