AAA: Thanksgiving Travel Flat This Year

Thanksgiving travel numbers will be relatively flat this year, according to a new survey of Californians.
AAA says about 5.4 million Californians plan to travel 50-miles or more for the holiday this week. That's only a 0.6% increase from last year.
"But it's still an increase which means that Californians are not canceling their travel as we saw (in) 2008, that was quite a struggle."
AAA's Cynthia Harris says most people will be driving…about
the same number as last year. The percentage of people flying is
down 1.8% from 2011.
The only real increase - by double-digits - is the number of
people traveling by "other modes of transportation:"
"…which includes: boats, trains, cruises, motorcycle. And
this is an increase of 11% compared to last year. So it just shows
that people are being very creative of how they travel."
Harris says if you plan on staying at a hotel, the average
cost is $143 per night.
