A park for homeless people north of Downtown Sacramento may move.

Friendship Park is located near the busy intersection of North 12th Street, which is a three-lane thoroughfare heading into downtown, and North B Street.

Sister Libby Fernandez is with Loaves and Fishes which runs the park.

On Capital Public Radio's Insight with Beth Ruyak today, Fernandez said plans are underway to move the park deeper inside Loaves and Fishes' four-acre campus.

"We want to build a new, private park for our homeless guests to be and access services. So they can actually go from the interior to the dining room, to the housing office, instead of going around on 12th Street where it's very difficult and unsafe."

Fernandez is preparing to submit plans to the City of Sacramento for the new park.

Meanwhile, Loves and Fishes is collecting donations for its annual Thanksgiving feast on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Fernandez expects about one-thousand homeless people to show up for the meal.
