A special task force consisting of police officers, firefighters and even the bomb squad have been making arrests for illegal fireworks in Stockton.
Over the last couple of nights, they’ve made several arrests, handed out numerous citations, and seized hundreds of pounds of fireworks.
Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva said the “zero tolerance” policy is sending some people to jail.
“The people that have been booked into the San Joaquin County Jail in the last two nights have had over 100 pounds of illegal fireworks," Silva said. "They go straight to jail, and the people that might have maybe a couple pounds of illegal fireworks or [are] just seen shooting off illegal fireworks, they just get a citation.”
Silva said those citations can be costly, ranging from $100-$500.
He said people can report illegal fireworks by phone, text, or by going to the Stockton Police Facebook page and submitting a tip.
