Currently at more than 200,000 acres and a little over 30% contained, the Rim Fire is now the fifth largest wildfire in California’s recorded history. But Cal Fire’s Daniel Berlant points out; it’s not the only wild land fire burning now.

“It’s just one of eight though that has kept us very, very busy. In fact, today we have over 8,300 firefighters on the frontlines and as we go into the weekend the potential for new fires does remain very high.”

“Very high,” says Berlant, because a steady warming and drying trend is expected in the forecast, with temperatures several degrees above normal this weekend.

Meanwhile, three wildfires have been controlled. Overnight the “American Fire” in Placer County, the “Deer Fire” in Tehama County, and the “Little Fire” in Riverside County were all contained.
