UPDATE 1:29 p.m.: (AP) - Police say they shot and critically injured a man armed with a knife in an incident that completely shut down traffic on State Route 99 in Manteca, a major highway in Northern California.
Manteca Police Sgt. Mike Aguilar said a 57-year-old man was walking in a lane of oncoming traffic on State Route 99 Wednesday morning, shouting suicidal comments.
