It took five years and $195 million and Thursday Stockton officials finally celebrate the completion of the Interstate 5 Corridor Project.
Officials cut the ribbon to celebrate the finish of construction on Stockton’s I-5.
The bumpy ride of potholes has smoothed out to include soundwalls, concrete medians, widening, and resurfacing the 8-mile stretch from Charter Way to Hammer Lane.
Drivers endured daily delays and detours for five years, but Caltrans District 10 Director Dennis Agar says the improvements will last for decades.
“This long-life pavement should last us about 40 years, so we’re hoping the smoothness of the ride that’s going through the City of Stockton will continue for that length of time.”
Stockton’s I-5 corridor sees 120,000 vehicles a day, and the improvements will help with commute times and congestion along with the first car pool lanes in San Joaquin County.
