Insight: Brown's Prison Plan / March on Washington Remembered / Author Sherry Joyce / Pet Tales

Prison Plan California Governor Jerry Brown announced plans Tuesday to buy prison space to meet a federal court order to reduce prison populations. The plan is expect to cost $315 million this year and is being praised by members of both political parties. But some Democrats, most notably senator leader Darrell Steinberg, are opposed to the plan, saying the state needs to focus on mental health issues. The Democratic governor says he had no other options beside releasing about 8,000 more prisoners, which he says he is not willing to do. Capital Public Radio's State Government Reporter Katie Orr joins us to explain the plan and the opposition.
