Downtown Sacramento has a new lunch spot that employs women who are turning their lives around.

Plates2Go opened its doors Tuesday and served lunch to more than 100 supporters of the St. John’s Shelter Program for Women and Children.

Tamara Kafka is the kitchen manager for the restaurant. She graduated from St. John’s Plates Program four years ago and has been working in the restaurant industry since.

“I just learned every day to be accountable, to be responsible, knowing that if I don’t show up, that’s going to affect my team, you know with the restaurant, just being an adult, and just becoming responsible and self-sufficient and take care of your family,” says Kafka

This is the second Plates2Go restaurant to open in Sacramento. The first opened on Fruitridge Road in south Sacramento.
