The Manetti Shrem Museum’s opening exhibits will honor the legacy of the founding members of UC Davis art department, which hired several emerging artists in the 1960s – ambitious “young Turks,” if you will, who challenged the establishment and went on to important careers – like Wayne Thiebaud, Robert Arneson and William Wiley. Rachel Teagle is the museum’s founding director.
“The Manetti Shrem Museum is a contemporary art museum that defines its future by connecting to our past,” Teagle says.
This Sunday's grand opening will also be open to the public.
“We are free for all at the Manetti Shrem Museum," Teagle says. "Not just on opening day, (but) we are free for all every day at this museum."
The Manetti Shrem Museum can be reached from the UC Davis exit on Interstate 80 – the swooping roof is visible on the north side of the freeway.
