Update Sunday 10:22 a.m.: (AP) - A motorcyclist was shot to death on Interstate 80 near Truckee Saturday, prompting authorities to close the highway for hours to investigate.
The California Highway Patrol said three motorcyclists rode up to the victim Saturday afternoon and fired gunshots before taking off. The victim died at the scene.
CHP Officer Pete Mann told The Associated Press that the victim was associated with local motorcycle clubs.
Investigators were trying to gather information about the assailants and were asking witnesses to come forward.
Westbound lanes of the interstate were closed at the Nevada state line, causing traffic to back up for miles.
Original Post: The California Highway Patrol says westbound Interstate 80 at the Nevada State Line has been shut down Saturday due to an apparent shooting.
One fatality has been confirmed. The investigation is ongoing and there is no estimated time for re-opening the highway.
Drivers leaving the Reno area and heading west are being advised to take westbound US Highway 50 of the Mount Rose Highway to westbound State Route 28, then State Route 267 or State Route 89 to return to I-80
