UPDATE: 9:10 p.m.: SMUD says that 99 customers are still without power in the Citrus Heights area after a car collided with a pole, knocking out power to 17,000.
According to SMUD a crew is now replacing the pole, and power should be restored to the remaining customers by 5 a.m.
UPDATE: 6:10 p.m: About 1,600 people are still without power after SMUD says a car ran into a power pole and knocked down lines.
About 17,000 were originally without service.
Seventeen thousand people in the Citrus Heights area have been without power since about 4:50 p.m.
SMUD says it received a report of a car running into a power pole on Cook Riolo Road.
Crews are on scene working to install a new power pole and get the lines off of the ground.
The SMUD website says power is expected to be restored before 6 p.m.
