(AP) — Los Angeles authorities have closed a park near the site of a massive gas leak after finding what may be oily residue on playground equipment.
The city announced Tuesday that it's closing Holleigh Bernson Park in Porter Ranch until more samples of the brownish material are taken and analyzed.
Earlier this week, Los Angeles County health inspectors determined there was no evidence of oily residue at the park. But the city sent out its own experts Tuesday, who reached the opposite conclusion.
Southern California Gas cleaned up the playground equipment and fencing at the park on Tuesday, and it plans additional cleanups at three other parks on Wednesday.
The utility also says it will begin cleanup efforts this week at 140 homes where brown spots have been reported.
