Businesses Among Top Recent Brown Donors

The Brown for Governor 2014 committee has just over $7 million cash on hand. $5 million of that was left over from Brown’s 2010 campaign. The remaining $2 million has been raised during the governor’s term in office.

Phillip Ung is with the public interest group Common Cause. He says many of the recent donors are businesses who want the governor’s ear. Unions who spent a lot on Brown’s 2010 election and recent proposition fights aren’t as well represented. But Ung says that will likely change as the election gets closer.

“As the governor starts to campaign and starts to fundraise I think you’ll see more money from unions, and businesses as well, start to flow into his accounts,” he says. “You’ll also see him start to reach out to small donors.”

Recent Brown contributors include Microsoft, Time Warner Cable, Wal-Mart and several industry trade groups.
