Law Enforcement Prepares For Long Weekend

Thousands of people are taking to Northern California rivers for this extra long Fourth of July weekend.

Sacramento area law enforcement and fire agencies are urging people to stay safe.  Bryan Thomson with Sac Metro Fire says the smartest thing you can do is mix in a lot of water with your extra long weekend:

“Enjoy the holiday and the nation’s holiday and we want them to enjoy it.  But, what we want em to do is be responsible and remember is the alcohol’s not going to hydrate them," he said.  "It will actually dehydrate them.  So they need to drink water amongst their other beverages.”

Many people, like Rob Clark, have been rafting on the American river for years.  He says there are some trouble spots where people are concerned, but they’re easy to avoid:

“You could hear the loudness of what’s going on in a raft or they’re on the bank.  You stay away from that, obviously, he said."When I was younger, sure I’d go over there because I was interested, but now I know it’s not a good thing because it’s all mentality.  It’s just…they just…people want to fight.”

The Sacramento Police and Sheriff’s department boats will be on the water all weekend.
