(AP) - Family and friends of one of the victims of last week's California mass shooting are expected to gather for an outdoor funeral service Thursday afternoon.
Yvette Velasco was a San Bernardino County environmental health specialist. Authorities say co-worker Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik stormed into a holiday work gathering at the Inland Regional Center on Dec. 2, opening fire and killing 14 people.
Velasco's family says she was expecting to receive her official health inspector badge at the event. The 27-year-old was the youngest of four close sisters.
The ceremony will mark the start of a grim procession expected to take place throughout Southern California over the next week: About a dozen memorial services for those killed in the attack.
