Kansas coach Bill Self told ESPN Radio that McLemore is the best NBA prospect he's had since taking over at the helm of KU.

McLemore scored 15.9 points per game in his lone collegiate season.  He shot 49.5 percent from the field, 42 percent from three-point land and 87 percent from the free throw line.  Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton are listed as the incumbent shooting guards on the Kings.

In a statement, new owner Vivek Ranadive said he was pleased with the pick,

“Ben McLemore was our dream choice from the get-go. I did say that when we got the No. 7 pick that seven was my lucky number. So we felt seven was our lucky number and sure enough, we got the guy that we all were dreaming about.”

The Kings' website featured two photos of McLemore, along with the number to purchase season tickets. One of the images is an action shot of McLemore wearing a Kings uniform.

In the second round, the Kings selected guard Ray McCallum. McCallum is a point guard who played collegiately for Detroit. He was the Horizon League player of the year in 2012-13 scoring 18.7 points per game and nearly 72 percent from the free throw line.  He failed to make more than a third of his three-point attempts in any of his three years at the school.

The first pick overall went to the Cleveland Cavaliers. They selected Anthony Bennett from University of Nevada Las Vegas.
