The Beat Goes On...Line
For nearly 20 years, The Beat has sold new and used records, CDs and movies out of its storefront at the corner of 17th and J in midtown Sacramento. On a recent weekday afternoon, customer Martin Bazua was shopping for DVDs of The Beatles.
“I’m going to miss places like this," laments Bazua. "I’m the kind of person who likes to see something in person and not see it on a computer screen before I buy it.”
But soon he’ll have no choice. Beat owner Rob Fauble has decided to close the brick-and-mortar shop and become an online only retailer. Fauble says he hates to see the store go.
“I get choked up all the time. But you know, it’s just time,” he says.
Fauble’s lease on the building has expired. He says he couldn’t find a suitable new site to move into plus he couldn’t get a loan to cover the down time of moving into a new building.
“All of those cause problems, especially if we had to sit for 30 to 60 days, we lose our cash flow,” says Fauble.
Fauble is moving his inventory to a rented warehouse in Rocklin.
