Five Belgian Malinois and one German Shepherd are the newest members of the California Highway Patrol.
Today, the dogs and their handlers celebrated completion of an 11-week training course at CHP Headquarters in West Sacramento.
The course includes proper methods of subduing criminal suspects and detecting narcotics.
Julie Jensen is with the Coastal Division of the CHP and his been an officer for 21 years. She says she and her dog "Edy" have learned a lot in the last three months.
"We have grown together and we're gonna continue to grow together. So, I'm a new handler. He's new to all of this. And everything we're doing together. It's a bond. It's a partnership. I'm just so lucky. I'm so blessed."
K-9 teams continue to train after graduation. They are required to complete eight hours of training every week.
Jensen is one of 41 K-9 handlers with the Highway Patrol.
