(AP) - A bill allowing Nevada to increase speed limits to 80 mph on some roads has passed the Assembly and now goes to Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Assembly members voted 31-11 to approve SB2 on Tuesday.
The measure would allow the Nevada Department of Transportation to increase highway speed limits up to 80 mph if it chooses.
Existing Nevada law allows a top speed of 75 mph.
Representatives from Nevada's transportation department testified against the bill and said it would work against programs to limit traffic fatalities.
