McKinley Playground Rebuild Rolls On

Jeff Shields from Shields Electric is one of the volunteer coordinators on the project.  He says there is still much to be done.

"You can see the steel fabrication frame over there.  We still have concrete columns that are going up around that.  We still have cut and stamped raised letter steel fabricated signage to go across there that will replicate the original entryway to the Alhambra Theatre.”

There are also trees to plant and rubber surfacing to install. Shields says it could be the first week in July before the playground is ready to open.

"That process takes about ten days to cure.  So, although only a couple of days for them to install it.  Then everybody has to be off the site for at least ten days.”

Neighbors like Julie Reilly say so far so good.

“I had no idea what to expect.  I hadn’t seen any of the renderings, so I’m really really excited to see what it looks like so far.  From nothing to a bunch of posts in the ground to this in a week is amazing.”

A fire destroyed much of the old playground last year and the rest was demolished.
